soooo–what is most fuel resistant, chemical resistant? Have high demand for use on ramp.

Is it wise to purchase expensive saw cutting equipment at a small airport, aging airfield, and limited funded maintenance operation? Outsourcing these repair jobs is ridiculous and looking to justify long term spending. Help!!!

How well does pavement rehab fare in the competition amongst airports for AIP funding? Doe FAA have set criteria for prioritizing pavement status?

What happens when your sand supplier all of the sudden cannot meet sieve requirements and all other suppliers in your area are not prepared to do proper screening?

Joint sealing products have really come along way. Fuel/chemical resistance and overall strength has improved tremendously. I personally like what All-Tech has done with their product. It’s a product bucket list item for me.

spidering, flaking, joint separation—shrinking pavement seeks out the points of least resistance and problems will manifest themselves in areas that may have moisture content.

I heard that switchgrass is catching on in many locations. Acts as a deterrent and is revenue generating under the right circumstances. Many times it’s actually a funded program under USDA

I’d look at Ez-Liner or Craftco walk-behinds. Many sizes and options.

    Also known as Alligator cracks–
    1.Lack of lateral support
    2.Settlement of underlying material
    3.Shrinkage of drying out soil
    4.Weak base or subgrade layer
    5.Poor drainage
    6.Frost heave
7.Heavy traffic or vegetation along edge

I hear that many larger airports are still using Avion 50 or applying other chemicals then brooming/scrubbing off. Certainly environmental concerns come into play with this. Are there any other alternatives?

  • I personally like a combination of both. Of course you need to monitor pavement conditions and temperatures. Liquid is far more reactive than proactive. Once a bond takes place, you are screwed and will spend a great amount of money and resources trying to get your friction back. Solids will help prevent this bond if you get it on the surface in…[Read more]

As for brooms, I like the MB poly’s. Getting 120 hours on these baby’s!!! Operator, broom speed, and smaller patterns give it an optimum advantage in shelf life.

  • Dan replied to the topic Blower Cutting Edges in the forum Products 3 years ago

I would either check into a Kahlbacher cutting edge or Kuper cutting edges. Ceramic type edges seem to hold up better.

Make sure that you have access to your airports Safety and Emergency plan. All roles are defined.

  • Dan replied to the topic Pavement Repair in the forum Ground Maintenance 3 years ago

I would highly recommend looking at a product from All-Tech Solutions called FastPatch. Durable, flexible, fast to cure and stronger than any other product out there.

  • Dan replied to the topic Weather apps in the forum Safety / Security 3 years ago

You are best off letting your supervisor and/or Op’s use NWS for predictions. They can never get it right and during the winter months when overtime is a factor therefore you can almost expect a lot of paranoid, stupid calls for you to be at work when you don’t really need to be. NWS—money in the bank.

Great responses to this question. It just seems that pavements life cycle will lessen in the snow belt areas, given all of the other factors.

  • Dan replied to the topic KODIAC in the forum Equipment 3 years ago

I have gone to many conferences and have talked to many airport personnel that do not have a lot of good to say about their customer service or quality. If an airport has to seek AIP funding, it sounds like Kodiac could receive many awards just by being low-bid.
