  • I am trying to research some information on how training is selected, in-house or outside contractor, standard or custom program? I am working with a global committee looking at training for airfield personal. So I would like some feedback on a few questions.

    1) How do you determine what training to be performed in-house vs outside…[Read more]

  • As stated all rolls should be defined in the Airport Emergency Plan (AEP). As for Airport Operations, they will become part of the Incident Command structure, representing the Airport Manager, along with the Fire Department, Police Department, the airline (if involved) and any Federal agencies that needs to participate (FAA, NTSB, FBI, CDC).…[Read more]

That is a very interesting question, how much do you invest in employee training or expect candidates to have prior to hiring?

I know from my point, I entered the aviation community as an electrician with no training on the electrical equipment or circuits on airports. The training I received was by other experience Airport Electricians, on…[Read more]

I know that TMS out of the UK, has developed a soda blaster to clean lights. I saw the original design in action a few years back now. I was not impressed with the automatic method, but the manual wand worked great. I think the current product uses the manual wand to clean, as they continue to refine the automatic method. I think that Calgary in…[Read more]

The FAA requires that the AEP /ACM to be reviewed annually, and updated with any changes. Most airports I know only update the AEP every 2 to 5 years. As most of the changes are due to vendor contracts, or Airport personnel movement (internal or external). In recent years, airports have stopped printing hard copies and moved to electronic copies.…[Read more]

  • The list above is very good. I would add one item that the new person should drive with an experienced driver for a bit. This way it can minimize any errors in communication or driving.

As a driver trainer on ARFF equipment, our new personnel are put through a 40 hour training course that includes about 20 hours of driving during the day and at…[Read more]

Looking at AC 150/5200-18c, it is dealing with Inspection of airports, including fueling facilities. What is not presented here (until Appendix 3) is any information on parking of fueling equipment. In Appendix 3 on the check sheet lists the distances for spacing between refueling vehicles and the building. This is the only reference to…[Read more]

Lets look at this issue. The short answer is what is in your airports AEP (Airport Emergency Plan) or set by Airport Operations for Fueling Operations. Generally as a minimum it is 10 ft between vehicles and 50 ft from building according to FAA 150/5230-4B that references NFPA 407

  • C Moore replied to the topic Active Shooter Training in the forum Safety / Security 3 years ago

As a member of an ARFF Fire Department, I can tell you the size of your airport does not matter. An active shooter can be anyone with a gun. It can take place in the terminal, like in Florida or in the flight school hanger. I would encourage all airports to hold meeting with their local public safety personnel (Police and Fire too) to develop a…[Read more]
