Our airport has hundreds of acres of unused, non-revenue generating land. We are looking at a variety of options including agricultural activities. What does the FAA recommend or discourage when searching for ways to maximize land property use?

Stay away from anything that attracts raptors, geese, or any other larger bird. I hear Switchgrass is a good field deterrent if you must have open fields but creating FBO’s, hotels, restaurants or retail type facilities will obviously enhance airport revenues and not enhance wildlife concerns.

I heard that switchgrass is catching on in many locations. Acts as a deterrent and is revenue generating under the right circumstances. Many times it’s actually a funded program under USDA
